Case Study - MV Delphine

Vessel: MV Delphine Location: Leixoes to Zeebrugge Port in Transit Date: February 2018 Products: Beegrip's Bimagrip LS Anti-slip and Waterproofing System,  Acraprime & Emery Bauxite  JMS Lincoln were chosen by MV Delphine’s ship management company to carry out the Bimagrip LS application to the MV Delphine’s most critical areas, where traction is vitally important for all the cargo being loaded and unloaded on a regular basis. The project was completed in transit as the vessel made its way from Lexioes port to Zeebrugge for its maiden voyage. The largest RORO Freight ever to be created was in need of an anti-slip surface before its cargo operations were fully underway. JMS Lincoln had a limited time for the vessel to hit its deadline and to ensure the vessel could start its day to day operations without any delays. All machinery and plant had to be shipped over prior to the job start date. The first 2 days in transit had the vessel experience unforeseen bad weather, the vessel was experiencing stormy weathers with the ship swaying from side to side at a rate of 38°C & 6m waves recorded with a huge swell. Site operatives had to adapt their schedules, and everyone had to pull together to ensure the project was a success with long working days the only viable option left for the project to be a success, not a problem!  The ship deck was prepared by JMS Lincoln operatives. Deck preparation is carried out in order to achieve an SA2.5 finish to ensure the highest level of adhesion, removing any rust, dirt or scale. After the bad weather subsiding the ship deck was blasted and then primed using Beegrip’s single component rust inhibiting solvent based polyurethane priming system to protect the steel work from corrosion and to enhance the bond between the Bimagrip LS system and the deck. Site operatives installed Bimagrip LS a 3-component system – The combined waterproofing, wearing course and high friction surfacing to the MV Delphine on its most critical areas needed around the vessels 5 sperate decks, focusing on areas where high traction was required. Using Beegrip’s highly developed resin technology, Bimagrip LS is a selection of high-grade abrasion resistant aggregates held together with specially formulated polyurethane resins, the economical solution is designed to give strength, flexibility, and long-life durability that protects ship decks and requires minimal maintenance whilst also maintaining the highest levels of skid resistance. The system for this project was chosen to be at 5kg/m2 resin loading for the task and was chosen with 1-3mm Emery Bauxite aggregate casted to provide a robust and durable finish. .
